Here's another one. Every next one more beautiful than the previous.
And this grand finale waterfall is surnamed the Paillon del Diablo (we were able to hike down from the road for 30 mins to see it right up close and it certainly lives up to its name).
Along the way, in addition to waterfalls, we also passed... bungee jumping into the rapids. (no, we did not do this!)
A funicular ride. (we did do this one though... not as daring, but still fun!)
Enjoyed the local "hotdog" (it is a cooked sweet plaintain with melted cheese held in the plaintain peel).
A suspended bridge above the roaring rapids.
Almost vertical houses alongside the mountains that we were passing.
A police station... notice the graphic on the building on the right (it is a graphic of a policeman shooting - now that's convincing!).
Several other tourists biked along with us... even this one girl with her little dog in her backpack.
If you've always wondered what sugar canes looked like in the wild, look no further!! It's just overgrown grass really.
Here I am, having just returned from another adventure in Quito - a visit to women's prison (Carcel de las Mujeres), and showing off my "visitor stamps" on my arm. We talked with some international prisoners and found that they had a snack shop in the prison, a kitchen from which to cook their meals, guards wore plain clothes, and prisoners could even paint their rooms. Still, it did not look like any fun at all.
And our favourite snake oil potion from Ecuador... Mate de Coca, yessiree, made from real coca leaves (where Cocaine comes from) but guaranteed to cure you from what ails ya! (particularly altitude sickness... this at least I can atest to from my own experience).
